Welcome to the National Training Programme for New Governors (NTPfNG). This Governor Training Programme has been prepared to help governor trainers in local authorities and Diocesan Boards ensure that new governors have the information they need to become effective school governors. The training programme has been updated to include changes introduced by the 2005 Education Act and the New Relationship with Schools.
 
Use the links below to access the training programme toolkit used by trainers. There is also a workbook for governors which can be accessed via the 'background' link below.

Although both the trainers' toolkit and the workbook were updated in November 2005, the video and CD-Rom which accompany the training programme remain the same and have not been amended in any way.

If you have difficulty opening an attachment, there may be a programme reader-incompatibility issue. The following may resolve the issue: when you click on an attachment and are presented with a File Download box, select 'Save this File to Disk' and then 'Open' rather than 'Open this File from its Current Location'. This allows your computer to open the attachment, taking into account the form of Acrobat it was saved in on the website.
