Extended services hotseat

You're looking at an archived page, which may not reflect current policy.

On Wednesday 15 November at 3pm, GovernorNet hosted a hotseat on the development of extended services in and around schools.  Jean McEntire from the National Governors' Association was on hand to respond to your questions and to hear about your experiences of developing extended services.

You can view the video with Jean here on GovernorNet by selecting one of the following links:

You can also read the transcript of the interview.

This was a chance to ask questions and share experiences of developing extended services in and around schools. Extended schools provide access, in partnership with local providers, to before and after school activities, support for parents, referral to health and social care services and ICT, sports/arts facilities and adult learning for the wider community. There is evidence that extended services are helping to

  • improve pupil attainment, behaviour and confidence
  • better enable teachers to focus on teaching and learning
  • enhance access to services for children and families

A discussion paper on the Governance and Management of Extended Schools and Sure Start Children's Centres is available to download by following the link below.
