Fitness to teach: guide for employers

Employers and initial teacher training providers have a responsibility to ensure that existing and prospective teachers have the health and physical fitness to teach, as set out in The Education (Health Standards) (England) Regulations 2003. A guidance document is now available, which covers the fitness to teach standards along with the responsibilities listed under the Disability Discrimination Act 2005.

Also covered are the procedures for making teacher assessments, including the role of medical advisers and occupational health advisers.

The document is available to read on TeacherNet.
