Trainee teachers outside the classroom

Teaching Outside the Classroom is a new national programme which encourages providers of teacher training to offer their students placements in a diverse range of educational settings, including theatres, museums, galleries, farms, field study and environmental centres, outdoor education centres, historic houses and places of worship.

The programme is being delivered through the Teaching Outside the Classroom website. This provides further information on the programme and includes a database of initial teacher training (ITT) providers other than schools, access to support and case studies.

The placements will complement existing teaching practices in schools, developing knowledge and skills about how to work with partners to bring teaching outside the classroom, and will support the aims of the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Manifesto.

The initiative is being developed by Creative Partnerships with support from the DCSF, the LOtC Manifesto partnership, the Museums Libraries and Archives Council, and the Training and Development Agency for Schools.
