State of Education Week on TTV

Highlights this week include:

Dumbing Down or Wising Up
Are standards slipping in traditional subjects? Has the popularity of applied and creative subjects led to 'dumbing down'? A staff and student swap between two contrasting schools helps explore the debate.

The Big Debate Is The Curriculum Fit for The 21st Century?
Krishnan Guru-Murthy presents a lively debate on the state of education in England today. Recorded in front of a studio audience made up of teachers, experts and parents, panellists will include Professor Alan Smithers from Buckingham University, Matthew Taylor, Head of the Royal Society and former adviser to Tony Blair; Mick Waters, Director of Curriculum at the QCA; Saira Khan, entrepreneur, broadcaster, and runner-up in first series of The Apprentice and Philip O'Hear, Principal of the Capital City Academy.

Secret Life of the Classroom
Each September around 650 000 children will be dropped off for their first day at school. An anxious time for both parent and child with neither really knowing what lies in store.
