Engaging the Disengaged on Teachers TV

Two weeks from 18 May 2009

Improving Secondary Attendance Meeting the Challenge
This programme explores how a school serving one of Britain's most deprived areas has developed a series of strategies to tackle poor attendance.

Using ICT to Engage Parents
In this programme, we feature case studies of online network platforms designed to improve relationships between children and parents, increase connections between parents, pupils and teachers, and offer help and support to 'hard to reach parents'.

Laptop Library
The Laptop Library is a course run by the Lambeth Family Learning Centre, which aims to increase parents' and carers' computer knowledge giving them access to further education and career advancement.

School Behind Bars
This extraordinary film tells the stories of Britain's youngest criminals, and the teachers who are trying to help them learn. We follow the lives of inmates at a secure unit for children to discover what's brought them here and what is being done to set them straight.

Teenage Drop-Outs NEETs
There are estimated to be over 200 000 young people who are not in education, employment or training. Why do they become disengaged and what can be done to prevent it?

KS3 Girls' Achievement
Paignton Community and Sports College is a huge school with over 1800 pupils in Torbay, parts of which are amongst the most deprived in the UK. As a result the school has a mixed population of pupils both academically and socially.

KS3/4 Boys Achievement
Hall Green School in Birmingham actively targets their boys with a range of tactics aimed at improving achievement levels.
