Focus on the EU in Citizenship with conferences and a competition

Schools are encouraged to focus on the EU in Citizenship classes with an essay competition and free conferences offering resources.

The 'What has the EU done for me?' writing competition is organised by the British Council, the Hansard Society and the EU Commission Representation in the UK. It is open to pupils aged 11-19, in four age groups, and entries close on 10 November.

The �EU and All That' Citizenship conferences are being organised by the UK Office of the European Parliament and the Hansard Society. Conference attendees will receive a free set of new resources, and there will also be workshops on teaching political literacy. Travel will be paid for and refreshments are provided.

The all-day conferences will take place as follows:

  • London � 6 December
  • Brighton � 13 December
  • Manchester � 10 January
  • Bristol � 7 February
  • Cardiff � 21 March
  • Birmingham � 25 April
  • Cambridge � 23 May
  • York � 20 June
