Staffroom Monologues Actors Bill Paterson, Sophie Stanton, Marian McLoughlin and Gillian Bevan perform the four winning entries of the nationwide Teachers TV and NUT Staffroom Monologues competition. Written by teachers, the monologues provide a humorous, yet at times tragic, reflection on working in education today.
News Review of the Year 2007 Teachers TV offer a comprehensive review of the issues that have dominated education in 2007. Lessons from Abroad Weekend (5-6 January) A weekend devoted to exploring the lessons we can learn from teaching methods around the world. We look at classrooms in Sweden, Kenya, China and Brazil to consider how these countries educate and inspire their children. There's also another opportunity to see Inspirations: A West African Story, a winner at this year's Japan Prize.
Great Books Teachers TV and the NUT come together to reveal the books that have most inspired those involved in education. Selina Scott counts down the top 10 books voted for by Teachers TV viewers, whilst educational writer John Richmond offers a potted biography of each book and author.
Reading Aloud with Michael Rosen Children's Laureate Michael Rosen unwraps a selection of literary treats, including a rare and exclusive interview with Raymond Briggs, creator of The Snowman.
Inspirations: The Circus Comes to School Using a power drill, a basketball, a smelly sock, and a host of other bizarre props, Dr Ken Farquhar helps pupils understand principles of gravity, friction, air resistance and gyroscopic forces. We also explore the unexpected results of a project that studied how effectively pupils could be engaged by learning circus skills.
The Teaching Challenge: Vanessa Feltz Broadcaster and columnist Vanessa Feltz takes up the challenge to teach a Year 6 class from St Edwards RC Primary School in London. Having expressed a desire to teach, Vanessa is thrown in at the deep end and is faced with giving a PSHE lesson on relationships to the class.
Inspirations: Oasis of Peace A look at the work of Reem Nashef, an Arab, and Hezzi Schouster, a Jew, co-teachers at a remarkable school in Israel.
