Teachers TV Early Years Week

Monday 14 January to Sunday 20 January 2008

How do they do it in Sweden?
Sweden's attitude to teaching one to six-year-olds appears incredibly relaxed. There's little formal learning, play is paramount and the children are encouraged to help with cleaning and catering. Swedish children lead the literacy tables in Europe. We travel to Motala in Sweden to discover just how they achieve such stunning results.

Early Years Foundation Stage
Education broadcaster and journalist Mike Baker presents this essential guide to the crucial Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) issues. He details what you need to know about the new framework and how it will affect the daily work of birth-to-five settings.

Men in Primary Early Years
This programme follows a male reception teacher, male nursery teacher and male nursery nurse in the female-dominated area of early years education, giving their frank account of the issues they face. They discuss the highs and lows of teaching and why male role models for young children are so important.

Students under Surveillance
Pupils are increasingly being monitored by CCTV, with cameras watching their every move throughout the school day, on the bus, in the canteen even in the classroom. This programme investigates what information is being collected, how it is being used and why no-one is monitoring the monitors.

Religion in Schools
In the first Big Debate of 2008, Jonathan Dimbleby brings together educationalists to discuss what part faith should play in education and whether it is time to establish a fully secular system.

These programmes and more are available to watch and download online for free. For more information and supporting resources please visit the website.
Teachers TV is available 24 hours a day on Sky Guide 880, Virgin TV 240 and Homechoice 845; and on Freeview 88 between 4:00 5:00 pm.
