Reports about GCSEs and A Levels by Ofqual

Ofqual is an independent public body which monitors the standards of exams and qualifications. On 27 March Ofqual published various reports on the standards of GCSEs and A Levels in different subjects.

Ofqual found that there were problems with the standard of GCSE science exams in certain years. These problems largely affected the way that science GCSEs taken in summer 2007 were assessed.

Ofqual has already taken action to put this right for this summer's exams. There is no need for any action to be taken by students who took these exams or who are due to sit science GCSE this summer. This issue is about the assessment of GCSE science, and is not a reflection on the hard work of young people or their teachers.

Full details and the Ofqual media release are available from the Ofqual website, linked below. Those that have queries can call the Ofqual helpline on 0300 303 3346.
